Patna, Dec 24 (ANI): Sikh devotees on Thursday offered prayers at Gurudwara Patna Sahib on the 343rd birth anniversary of their 10th and last religious leader, Guru Gobind Singh. The guru's birth anniversary, is also known as Guru Parab.

In Patna city, the birthplace of Guru Gobind Singh, priests at gurdwaras recited hymns from the Sikh holy book, the Guru Granth Sahib. Sikhs greeted each other expressing their happiness and devotion.

"This day is important for the entire humanity. Devotees consider themselves fortunate to pay obeisance at the Gurudwara Patna sahib on this day," said Daljeet Singh, Head 'Granthi', Gurudwara Patna Sahib.

The devotees were delighted to celebrate the festival. They also distributed sweetened water and food in gurdwaras and different parts of the city.

"I have come with a great devotion. Even though it is physically tiresome to visit the Gurudwara here but after reaching the place, I feel extreme happiness," said Surjeet Kaur, a devotee.

This day is celebrated every year as an occasion to remember the brave deeds of Guru Gobind Singh, who organised Sikhs to protect the community's beliefs in the 17th century, during the Mughal rule. (ANI)
