DMK sweeps Tamil Nadu assembly by-polls

Chennai, Dec 23: The ruling DMk swept the by-polls in Tamil Nadu by claiming both the seats which went to polling on Dec 19.

The ruling party dished out a heavy blow to the rival AIADMK by securing both Vandavasi and Tiruchendur Assembly seats on Wednesday, Dec 23.

While DMK's Anitha R Radhakrishnan thrashed AIADMK's T Narayanan by a huge margin of over 46,000 votes in Tiruchendur, Kamalakannan claimed victory over the Vandavasi seat with over 38,000 votes.

Vandavasi seat was with DMK previously as well. However, the party stole the Tiruchendur seat from AIADMK.

This has been a good year for DMk, while a humbling one for the AIADMK.

"People voted for our party due to our government's achievements and the importance we accord in solving their problems," DMK president and Chief Minister M Karunanidhi said, while speaking on the party's victory in the by elections.
