Russia demands probe into rape of its national in Goa
New Delhi, Dec 22 (ANI): Russian Ambassador to India Alexander Kadakin has asked the Indian government to investigate and punish the rapists of his country's national in Goa. n this context, the Russian envoy visited Ministry of External Affair and met the concerned officials.
Talking to reporters, the Russian Ambassador said that the Goa government has not taken any steps and he expects the Goan authorities to do the needful.
" This is a criminal case and we expect that the authorities and the courts in Goa will do the needful to investigate and to punish the culprits," said Kadakin.
He also said that although no advisory has been issued as yet, he wished Goa Chief Minister Digambar Kamat clarifies whether such an advisory to Russians to stay indoors after 10 in the night needs to be issued or they are free to move.
"No circulars were issued, no. Basing on the statements by the Chief Minister of Goa, who said that what the girl was doing at two'o clock in the morning etc., our Consul General in Mumbai asked that should we give instructions to our people not to walkout after 10'o clock. So it was not that any instructions were issued. But we just were wondering after such statements that, well, should our people not walk at night there," added Kadakin.
A 25-year-old Russian tourist has alleged that a high profile Goa politician named John Fernandes raped her on December 1 in his car.
At least 126 foreign nationals have died in Goa in the past two years, as per officials in 2008. (ANI)
