Pressurised to speed up 26/11 case: Ujjwal Nikam
Nagpur, Dec 22: Public Prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam made a startling claim in Latur on Monday, Dec 21, when he said a former Union minister had put pressure on him to speed up the 26/11 case for electoral gains.
Maharashtra Assembly Speaker has asked the state government to enquire into Nikam's claims and respond by Tuesday, Dec 22.
Nikam is alleged to have said he was asked to file 12 separate chargesheets in the trial against the lone surviving Pakistani gunman Ajmal Kasab to seek quick verdict in each case.
Nikam allegedly made the remarks at a seminar on trial against terrorists at Latur district.
The prosecutor has denied that he had said pressure was put on him to file separate chargesheets.
He said there was no such pressure on him or the prosecution and that he had been quoted out of context.
