Akshay Kumar becomes torch bearer for Canada winter Olympics
Mumbai, Dec 20 (ANI): Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar got a rousing welcome at the Mumbai airport on his return from Canada, after his participation as a torch bearer for the 2010 Winter Olympics, to be held in Vancouver.
Akshay's involvement was announced by Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper during his two-day visit to India.
Talking to reporters, Akshay said, he would auction he torch and give the proceeds for the Special Olympics (for physically challenged sportspersons), for which he is also the brand ambassador.
"I felt good that I was given such a big work and it is a marvellous thing that the Canadian government allowed this torch to be brought here and what I'm going to do is, I'm going to auction this torch and give the money to special Olympics," he added.
Akshay is one of the 14 torch bearers for the Olympics to be held from February 12 to February 28, 2010. (ANI)
