Gadkari takes charge as BJP chief
New Delhi, Dec 19: Nitin Gardkari takes charge as BJP party president in New Delhi, on Dec 19.
Rajnath Singh stepped down to make way for Gadkari who was the Maharashtra BJP president.
Citing his abilities as the criteria for making him party president, Singh congratulated the new president.
Gadkari said that he would ensure that he perform his duty well with the guidance of the likes of Advani and Hazare.
"I am overwhelmed at this moment. I am looking forward to guidance from Advani", he said
Just hours before taking charge, Gadkari said that politics for him was instrument to bring about the changes in the lives of the poor and the downtrodden.
"I don't work as if I am making a political career. I work for the poor and down-trodden sections of society who don't have food to eat, house to live in or clothes to wear. I strive to bring about a transformation in their lives," he said, adding that he Sanhg and ABVP have been an inspiration for him.
"I have asked the Sangh for its blessings in my work for the benefit of the poor," he said
The flight taking Gadkari and his family to Delhi was delayed earlier this day.
