Railways were below par during Lalu era: Mamata
New Delhi, Dec 18: Union Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday, Dec 18, tabled a White Paper in Parliament on the financial status of Indian Railways.
The White Paper report claimed that the performance was 'below par' during 2004-05 to 2008-09.
The document presented by the Railway Minister created a furore in the Lok Sabha as it details several changes that were made in the accounting procedures.
The report also exposes a variety of hidden charges that had found their way into the Railway ticketing when RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav was the railway minister.
The tabling of report angered Lalu Prasad, who had claimed turning around the Railway's fortune with a surplus of Rs 90,000 crore in his tenure.
Lalu Prasad Yadav had described the 'white paper' as a 'black paper' and categorically rubbished all allegations of financial irregularities levelled against him.
The document also spells out Railways' various plan of action for the coming decades.
