Campaign for separate Vidarbha takes off

Nagpur, Dec 14: The campaign for a separate state of Vidarbha carved out of Maharashtra gains momnetum as pro-Vidarbha groups initiated agigations on Monday, Dec 14 by halting a Mumbai Nagpur Vidarbha Express train for 15 minutes in Nagpur.

About 200 activists of the Vidarbha Youth Force blocked the railway track and forced the train to stop and let it resume its journey only after 15 minutes, say media reports.

This led to blockage in the rail traffic causing delays on the route.

The demand, which was renewed following the Centre's nod for separate Telangana from Andhra Pradesh also sees support from Congress MP and former Union minister Vilas Muttemwar.

Muttemwar has reportedly written to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh asking him to consider the need for creation of Vidarbha state.

In another campaign for a separate state led by the nod for Telangana, Gorkha Janmukthi Morcha (GJM), which is demanding a separate Gorkhaland, began indefinite fast infront of Jantar Mantar on Monday, Dec 14.
