Developing nations walk out of UN climate talks
Copenhagen, Dec 14: The main sessions of UN climate talks in Copenhagen were suspended on Monday, Dec 14, after developing countries walked out.
They accused the rich countries of trying to back out of the Kyoto Protocol on carbon emissions.
India and three other members of the BASIC group were unhappy over the second commitment period not being discussed properly under the Kyoto Protocol.
Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh along with his counterparts from Brazil, South Africa and China walked out to meet Connie Hedegaard, the Danish President of the COP, and convey their protest.
Kyoto Protocol puts obligations on developed nations to undertake emission cuts.
