Ireland child abuses: Pope ashamed

Vatican City, Dec 12: Apalled at the government report which reveals the involvement of priests in sexual abuses of children in Ireland, a Vatican statement said that Pope Benedict shares "outrage, betrayal and shame" felt by the Irish people.

"The Holy Father shares the outrage, betrayal and shame felt by so many of the faithful in Ireland, and he is united with them in prayer at this difficult time in the life of the Church," the statement said.

It has been informed that the Holy Father is going to write a first-ever letter centering on sexual abuse to the Irish people.

Following the stunning revelation the bishops who have named in connection with the cover up is expected to resign, in addition to which the Vatican is expected to look into the governance of church leaders responsible for the pastoral care of children.

The Murphy commisioner report which was published two weeks ago reveals that Church leaders in catholic Ireland has obsessively covered up child abuse cases involving priest for the last 30 years.
