Manjunath murder: Death sentence reduced to lifer
Lucknow, Dec 11: Citing that it was not rarest of the rare cases, the Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court changed the death sentence of main accused Pawan Kumar Mittal in the 2005 Manjunath murder case to life imprisonment.
The division bench comprising Justice K K Misra and Justice D V Sharma also acquitted two co-accused, Harish Misra and Sanjay Awasthi on Friday, Dec 11.
The judgement was passed on the appeals of these convicts against Kheri sessions court judgement passed in Mar 2007.
Manjunath, an IIM-Lucknow pass out was working as sales officer for Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), when he was brutally murdered for exposing the adulteration racket at the Mittal petrol pump in Kheri.
