Gorkhaland demand old & valid: Jaswant Singh

New Delhi, Dec 11: Amid the agitation led by Gorkha Janamukti Morcha (GJM) demanding a separate Gorkhaland, Darjeeling MP Jaswant Singh has asserted that the demand for a separate state is an 'old and valid' one.

Speaking to reports on Friday, Dec 11, the MP said that if the demands were met in time then there would be no need for violence.

"If legitimate and valid demands are met in time, then there is no need for protests or violent protests for that matter," Jaswant Singh said.

"This demand has been there since 1907," he pointed out.

After the Centre granted a separate Telangana craved out of Andhra Pradesh, the GJM started off the renewed campaign for the separate Gorkhaland on Thursday, Dec 10.
