Railway coach factory to come up at Tata's abandoned Nano car site
Kolkata, Dec 9 (ANI): West Bengal government agreed to the proposal of railway ministry to set up a railway coach at the abandoned site of Tata Motors in Singur.
The land was originally acquired for setting up Tata Motors' Nano small car plant.
The state government has sent a letter to Railway Board Chairman S S Khurana, saying they were welcome if they wanted to set up industries in Singur.
"The railway minister had told that a railway coach manufacturing factory would be set up in Singur.
I had given a letter to the railway board chairman and informed that the state government could give Singur land if the railways would want to set up the railway coach factory. I have asked their suggestion and detailed reports on that," said Ashok Mohan Chakraborty, state chief secretary.
Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee had launched a massive protest against the acquisition of farmers' land at Singur a year ago.
Recently she evinced interest to set up a rail coach factory in collaboration with the state government or on a public-private-partnership (PPP) model at the abandoned site. (ANI)
