Top self-styled militant commander arrested in Kashmir
Anantnag (J-K), Dec 4 (ANI): Jammu Kashmir police assisted by the paramilitary forces arrested a top militant belonging to the Jaish-e-Mohammad.
Assisted by troops of counter-insurgency outfit, 36 Rashtriya Rifles, police arrested Bashir Ahmad Wani alias Jaber Khan at Kokernag, said Showket Malik, senior superintendent of police, Anantnag district.
Wani, close associate of slain commanders of the outfit, Qazi Baba and Rashid is said to be active in militant activities since 1998.
"He was staying there (Kokernag) in someone's house for the last one-and-a-half month or so. We were suspicious about his activities and based on that we arrested him. During interrogation, we came to know that he is a militant belonging to Jaish-e-Mohammad who in 1998 for the first time crossed to Pakistan administered Kashmir for militant training," said Malik.
A resident of Nowgam-Madwa in Kishtwar district of Jammu region, Wani was wanted in several cases. (ANI)
