Mamata seeks army deployment in WB

New Delhi, Dec 4: Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee on Friday, Dec 4, demanded deployment of Army in three districts West Bengal where Maoists activities are at high to restore law and order in the state.

Urging the Center to take a definitive step in controlling the Maoists atrocities, Mamata said that TMC does not require President's rule to win election.

“We are not asking for President"s Rule to win elections. The Government must act as per the constitution and protect the minorities, women and weaker sections in West Bengal," said Mamata.

Mamata said that the Center must deploy army in Maoist-affected districts of West Midnapur, Purulia and Bankura so that the genocide in West Bengal could be stopped by recovering weapons of the Maoists.

The TMC chief said that they are neither against nor in favor of Article 356, but they are in favor of the genocide to stop in West Bengal.

Mamata's statement came after her meeting with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
