Kolkata: CCTVs in metro station to check suicides
Kolkata, Dec 4: The Kolkata metro railway authorities has decided to install CCTVs to prevent the metro station from being a suicide point.
The move by the authorities came after nine suicide cases occurred in railway stations in 2009.
"Each CCTV on the platforms monitor people"s movement. Cameras can even zoom in on the passengers if they are seen to behave abnormally. If a passenger is spotted loitering about for 15 to 20 minutes without boarding trains, RPF personnel are alerted," said a senior Metro official.
Authorities said that a quick response team will be stationed to prevent anyone from taking the plunge for which the station will have 20 hotlines.
A video footage of the earlier suicide cases will be studied upon to predicts suicidal behaviors.
