Center holding silent talks with Hurriyat: PC

New Delhi, Dec 2: Question hour on Wednesday, Dec 2 saw the home minister revealing silent talks separatist Hurriyat in Jammu and Kashmir.

Stating positive response from the government, Chidamabaram said that the move was in keeping with his earlier discussion with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to hold talks with every separatist groups in Jammu and Kashmir.

However, he said that media will be briefed about the talks only at the appropriate time.

"I am in favour of quiet talks, and quiet diplomacy far off from the glare of the media. At the appropriate stage, I will share with the House the contours of the settlement that may emerge," he said.

Citing cooperation from chief minister Omar Abdullah, Chidamabaram said that Omar had offered to mediate talks between the govt and militant outfit Hizbul Mujahideen if the outfit was willing to negotiate.
