Uttar Pradesh bureaucrat death case closed without probe
Lucknow, (Uttar Pradesh), Dec 1 (ANI): The Uttar Pradesh (UP) police have closed the case involving the suicide of Harminder Singh, Principal Secretary (Housing), stating there is nothing to inspect further.
Singh, who was in charge of Mayawati's pet project of building memorial parks filled with statues of Dalit icons, including herself, had shot himself two days ago with his licensed revolver.
The building memorial project has been slammed in the Supreme Court for using taxpayers' money. There have been allegations that Singh was under huge pressure to release the funds to build new memorials and to expand existing ones.
Those who want the death to be investigated claim that the bullet used by Singh to kill himself has not been recovered. So, a question arises whether the death was really a suicide.
To add to that, the post-mortem was done in the middle of the night without any delay. Given that Singh's wife was in a shock, the police could have waited for the other family members to arrive.
The police have not even disclosed the calls made by Singh prior to his death, but assert that Singh's family did not ask for an investigation. (ANI)
