Kasab's new lawyer KP Pawar takes charge

Mumbai, Dec 1: K P Pawar, the new lawyer appointed to defend the 26/11 terrorist Ajmal Amir Kasab, took charge of his duties on Tuesday, Dec 1.

Pawar was appointed after the special court sacked Abbas Kazmi for 'non-cooperation' on Monday, Nov 30.

Kazmi's removal came after he told the court on Nov 26 that he did not care about the about affidavits of witnesses filed by the prosecution, inviting the ire of judge ML Tahaliyani.

Even though Pawar has not worked on terrorism cases like Kazmi, who has defended several accused in the 1993 bomb blasts case, Pawar who has been working as the junior lawyer in the 26/11 attacks case is familiar with the details and the developments.

This is the second time, Kasab's defence lawyer has been changed. The court had appointed Abbas Kazmi after Anjali Waghmare was dismissed in Apr 2009 for 'professional misconduct'.
