Employment visa only in absence of skilled Indians

New Delhi, Nov 26: After Australia decided to tighten its immigration top reduce illegal immigration, India too has decided to clamp down certain rules for entry of foreign nationals. Employment visas will not be issued to foreign nationals for jobs in which qualified Indians are available.

According to a report submitted to the Rajya Sabha, the Ministry of Home Affairs has said that the foreign nationals came enter the country only on employment visa and that too will be issued only to skilled and qualified professionals.

"All foreign nationals coming for execution of projects/contracts in India will have to come only on an employment Visa and that such visa will be granted only to skilled and qualified professional appointed at senior level," Minister state for Home Mullappally Ramachandran said.

Stating that the notice has been reviewed by the government, Ramachandra said that suitable instruction have been given to Indian Missions abroad to regulate Business and Employment visas in keeping with the prescribed norms.

While foreigner nationals have been asked to to leave the country by Oct 31, 2009 and re-enter the country using appropriate visas, foreigners, including Russians who are on business visas have been given an extension till Nov 30.

Ramachandran said it has been decided that those on business will have them converted into employment visas as a special case.
