'Varsities must tailor courses on employability'
Panaji, Nov 25: While receiving a degree of Doctor of Letters (D.Litt) conferred up on her by the Goa University, President Pratibha Patil took the opputunity to tell the students to stay away from the 'shameful behaviour' of ragging.
"Ragging in all our universities and educational institutions must stop. It is a crime against humanity and a shameful behaviour...Education must develop cultured attitude and social awareness in students. Otherwise it is unrelated to life and its environment," Patil said.
She was addressing a gathering at the university's 22nd annual convocation ceremony held at Dona Paula on Tuesday, Nov 24.
Patil also pointed out the need for the universities to tailor the courses based on the requirements of the job markets.
"In India, problem is more of employability than unemployment...the skills that people have are not appropriate for securing employment," she said.
The President urged the universities to keep this in mind and aid students bolster their employability.
