'Obama to announce troop deployment on Dec 1'

Washington, Nov 24: President Barack Obama has planned to announce the number of troops being deployed to Afghanistan in a speech to the nation on Dec 1, National Public Radio reported.

According to NPR, the plan is for Defense Secretary Robert Gates, Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Admiral Michael Mullen, and the top commander in Afghanistan, General Stanley McChrystal, to testify to Congress soon after Obama makes the announcement.

Obama held a two-hour meeting with his war cabinet late Monday, Nov 23 to discuss the strategy in Afghanistan.
