Maharashtra gets its own NSG-like security force

Mumbai, Nov 24: Just days ahead of the 26/11 anniversary, Maharashtra is all set to get its own National Security Guard (NSG)-like elite security force.

Chief Minitser, Ashok Chavan has announced that the special security force designed on the lines of the National Security Guard (NSG), 'The Force One', will be commissioned on Tuesday, Nov 25.

The new force, which comprises of 256 officers and men, is headed by an officer of the rank of Deputy Inspector General (DIG). Force One's headquarters and training facilities are located on an 80-acre campus inside Aarey Milk Colony at Goregaon in north-west Mumbai.

The state felt a need for a force like this after the ghastly Mumbai Terror attacks in Nov 2008 which claimed over 200 lives. And the force was made operational just two days ahead of the 26/11 anniversary.

The state government is also exhibiting all the new and sophisticated weapons procured post 26/11 at a special police parade to be held from Gateway of India to Chowpatty, a distance of about five kilometre.
