HC refuses to stay Amar's arrest in fraud case
Allahabad, Nov 24: Allahabad High Court has refused to grant stay on SP general secretary Amar Singh's arrest in connection with an FIR accusing him of amassing Rs 500 crore by awarding contracts to a number of companies.
Bench comprising Justice Yatindra Singh and Justice S K Tripathi declined to grant an immediate stay on Singh's arrest, saying "the matter involves a huge sum of Rs 500 crore."
The court also directed the Uttar Pradesh government to file its counter-affidavit on the writ petition moved by Singh challenging the FIR lodged against him on Oct 15 in Kanpur.
The FIR has accused Singh of having amassed Rs 500 crore by awarding contracts to a number of companies in his capacity as the then Chairman of Uttar Pradesh Development Council when the state was under SP rule.
Complainant Shivakant Tripathi, who has been made a respondent in the case, was also asked to file his counter- affidavit by the next date of hearing on Dec 4.
