Toyota reports 5pc growth in Oct '09 sales

Tokyo, Nov 19: Even though its sales in United States plunged, encouraging sales in Japan and China has led Toyota Motors to report a 5 per cent rise in the global vehicle sales in Oct 2009.

With sales of over 640,000 units, Toyota Motor Corp recorded its first year-on-year increase in 15 months.

The world's biggest automaker took a beating in its biggest market- the United States where the sales dipped 3.5 per cent.

However, the sales were upbeat in Japan and China where the company saw growth of 15 and 45 per cent respectively.
