Karnataka: BSY inducts rival Shettar into ministry

Bangalore, Nov 17: Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa welcomed his political rival Jagadish Shettar into this ministry on Tuesday, Nov 17.

Shettar who resigned as the assembly speaker on Monday, Nov 16 was was administered the oath of office and secrecy by Governor HR Bhardwaj at Raj Bhavan on Tuesday, Nov 17.

The 54-year-old Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader took oath in Kannada in front of hundreds of supporters. Yeddyurappa and several cabinet ministers were also present during the ceremony.

Jagadish Shettar was projected as a possible replacement for BSY by the Reddy brothers-led dissent group in Oct 2009 who were demanding the removal of Yeddyurrappa.

Making Shettar was an imminent step for the Chief Minister who brought peace from the rebelling group after holding rigorous discussions to reach a compromise.

He has already accepted the resignation of his close associate and the only woman minister, Shobha Karandlaje and has transferred principal secretary VP Baligar.
