I did not encourage Fort Hood rampage: Imam
Washington, Nov 16: Reacting to his links with Maj Nidal Malik Hasan, the accused in Fort Hood rampage, radical Muslim Imam al-Awlaki has said on Monday, Nov 16 that he has never encouraged Hasan to harm Americans .
Talking about his first correspondence with Hasan though email in Dec 2008, al-Awlaki told Abdulelah Hider Shaea, a Yemeni journalist, who was contracted by Washington Post, that he was taken by Hasan as a confidant.
Al-Awlaki told Shaea that Hasan had questioned US wars against Afghanistan and said that America should be confronted for what it was doing under the Islamic law.
Condemning the huge outcry against the Fort hood rampage by Muslims, al-Awlaki was quoted as saying that the rampage was acceptable in Islam as America was the first to wage war against Muslim countries.
It was reported earlier that Hasan had attended the mosque of al-Awlaki in Great Falls, which was also attended by 26/11 hijackers.
At present al-Awlaki is in Yemen.
