Diabetic kids put up a rally in Aurangabad
Aurangabad, Nov 15 (ANI): Hundreds of diabetic patients including about 150 children suffering from diabetes participated in a rally here on the 'World Diabetes Day' to create awareness among the masses about the dangers of diabetes and the precautions people must take in order to avoid it.
The participants in the rally urged the people to shed the habits that are causing health problems and raised their voice against junk food.
The children also distributed leaflets and posters highlighting the slogan that "walking is the key to good health," and that "no child should die of diabetics."
"This disease is observed in children because of lack of exercise. Children today no more indulge in exercises or any other form of physical activities. Due to stress from studies, they hardly get time to play and as a result they just spend their time sitting. Even the children are not spared from the increasing competitiveness in the world and this is why, the diabetes seen in adults is now seen in them too, "said, Archana Sarda, a Diabetologist.
Sarda expressed concern as the International Diabetic Federation figures suggested that 43.5 million people in India are diabetics and 4 to 5 per cent of them are children.
According to the Central Bureau of Health Intelligence 2005 report, in Maharashtra 64.2 per cent of the diabetics were from urban areas while rest belonged to rural areas.
M.L Deshmukh, a pediatric warned that obese kids or too skinny kids are more prone to this disease.
He also emphasised that the parents must put a strict vigilance on the eating habits of their kids and should restrict them from eating junk food. (ANI)
