TMC welcomes Naxalite members: Mamata

New Delhi, Nov 12: Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee said on Thursday, Nov 12 that the growing membership of former Naxalites in main stream politics would strengthen the democratic system.

"A section of Naxalites in West Bengal has shunned violence and joined main stream politics by reposing their faith in democracy. This is a good sign for strengthening the democracy in the country," the Railway Minister said.

Acknowledging the contribution of former Naxalites in her party, Mamata said that Purnendu Bose, Dola Sen, Pradeep Banerjee and the like had joined the party during the Singur agitation and their return to democratic politics is a welcome change.

Mamata said that Maoists and Naxalites are two different groups and one should not be confused for the other.
