Prices of primary articles decline to 0.1 pc
New Delhi, Nov 5: After the Wholesale Price Index (WPI) during the week ending Oct 10 showed 1.21 pc inflation due to rise in prices of primary articles, the government's newly adopted mechanism showed a 0.1 pc decline in the prices of primary articles.
According to the official statement, the WPI under the new system includes primary articles and commodities belonging to the broad group of fuel, power, lubricants and light.
Earlier the WPI ended Oct 10 registered 26 pc rise in the price of onion, 20.03 pc and 20.8 pc rise in the prices of potato and other vegetables respectively. But the prices of fuel, lubricant and light remained unchanged to 6.2 pc.
Even in the new index, inflation rate of fuel, power, lubricants and light remained constant at 6.2 pc.
In keeping with the previous declaration of the Cabinet Commitee, a monthly price index would be put into use from Nov 12 to create a better response to WPI.
