October 2009: bloodiest month in Pak's recent history
Peshawar, Nov.5 (ANI): Pakistan witnessed some of the most deadly and brazen terror attacks in the month of Octobe,r with over 300 people being killed are scores others receiving grievous injuries.
Year 2009's month of October would be remembered as the bloodiest month in the country's modern history with some of the most shocking attacks.
While almost all parts of the country were rocked by extremist activities, Lahore and Peshawar were the two worst hit cities. Peshawar was targeted on more than five occasions that left more than 190 people dead.
However, the most audacious attacks were witnessed in Rawalpindi and Lahore respectively when the Army's General Headquarters (GHQ) and three other security installations were attacked simultaneously, but it was Peshawar which witnessed the most heart-rending incident.
A powerful blast rocked the provincial capital on October 28, killed 120 people, mostly women and children. The car bomb blast ripped through Chirri Koban road between Meena Bazaar and Koochi Bazaar.
The two markets mainly deal in garments, cosmetics and daily use items for women, and this was reason why the casualty list mostly included women and children.
Islamabad too was rocked on a couple of occasions, when extremists targeted the UN's World Food Programme building, and the International Islamic University.
Apart from the major cities, suicide bombers also wreaked havoc in Shangla, Hangu, Bajaur, Kohat and other small towns, The News reports. (ANI)
