Sunderlal Bahuguna protests against dam construction in Arunachal
Guwahati, Nov. 4 (ANI): Renowned environmentalist Sunderlal Bahuguna on Wednesday registered his protest against dams being constructed in Arunachal Pradesh.
During a news conference in Guwahati, Bahuguna said: "We ourselves are a victim of dams which I would say are disastrous in the long run and the border areas should be free of dams."
Bahuguna was protesting against the mega dams being constructed as part of the Subansiri Lower hydroelectric project which is the biggest hydroelectric project undertaken in India so far and is a run of river scheme on river Subansiri.
Many locals joined Bahuguna who has called for a total ban on construction of mega dams, saying that such huge constructions could be dangerous in high seismic regions.
The project is located near North Lakhimpur on the border of Assam and Aruncachal Pradesh. (ANI)
