Bharati Airtel Q2 net profit up 13pc
Mumbai, Oct 30: The telecom major, Bharati Airtel has reported a 13 per cent jump in its net profit for the second quarter (Q2) and has grabbed a massive 23.5 per cent of the wireless subscriber base by adding 82.44 lakh customers during the period.
For the ended Sep 30, 2009, the net profit came up at at Rs 2,321 while the revenue registered a growth of 9 per cent at Rs 9,846 crore.
The earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and ammortisation (EBITDA) margin improved to 42.1 per cent during Q2, against 41 per cent in the same quarter a year ago, Bharati Airtel said on Friday, Oct 30.
EBITDA which is a benchmark of profitability, was at Rs 4,142 crore in the second quarter, up by 12 per cent (YoY).
Speaking on the encouraging Q2 numbers, Bharti Airtel CMD Sunil Mittal said, "Bharti continues to maintain the market leadership in the mobile segment, despite stiff competition."
