Madras HC clash: Police guilty
Chennai, Oct 29: Madras High Court on Thursday, Oct 29, pronounced Radhakrishnan, the then police Commissioner and three other senior police officers guilty in the clash that broke out between the lawyers and police in Feb 19, 2009.The injured lawyers will get a compensation of rupees one lakh.
Tamil Nadu government has been directed to suspended the remaining four officers, on whom the Court will conduct contempt proceedings.
The incident took place when lawyers demanded the arrest of Janata Party Chief Subramanian Swamy for making offensive remarks on some of their colleagues. Police started using batons to disperse the agitated lawyers and some of the lawyers were arrested. This ensued a pandemonium like situation in which several lawyers burnt police station inside the court and vehicles were burnt down by the police
