Holistic approach key to Maoists menace: PM
Srinagar, Oct 29: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh prescribed a carrot and stick approach to deal with the Maoists menace on Thursday, Oct 29.
Addressing a press conference, Singh said, "We have to adopt a holistic approach towards the entire issue. Every state has to maintain a law and order situation and it is the precondition for a sustained social and economic development."
Singh said that the growing presence of alienation in major tribal area reflects inequality in the development process, adding that the alienation can be attributed to Maoists problems.
"We have to operate on two legs. we have to end alienation while paying attention to development dimension of the problem," he said.
Contradicting Mamata Banerjee's statement on the non-existence of Maoists, Singh said that Maoists threat is a reality and the government is duty bound to deal with it.
