Nokia, SAP to form new company to fight piracy

Helsinki, Oct 28: Nokia and SAP has said that they would establish a new firm to fight multi-billion dollar counterfeit and pirate product business.

The new firm, Original1, will be based in Frankfurt and headed by Claudia Alsdorf, currently VP of SAP Research.

The company is set to begin operations before the end of 2009. Nokai and SAP will both hold 40 per cent of the company, while German firm Giesecke & Devirent, will hold the rest.

Original1's services will rely on SAP technology and solutions, while Nokia will deliver mobile authentication software and Giesecke will offer security solutions.

Nokia's Antti-Jussi Suominen said, "We see a big business opportunity in brand protection services."
