Google interested in India's 3G market: Report

New Delhi, Oct 27: Internet giant, Google is reportedly mulling over the opportunities in the third generation (3G) of mobile telephony in India and therefore may participate in the 3G spectrum auction expected to begin in Jan 2010, claims a media report.

Quoting Telecom industry sources, the Business Standard reports that Google may participate in the auction with an Indian partner or could just become a technology partner to a telecom service provider.

If Google decides to partner with an Indian telecom service provider, being a foreign company, it can buy up to 74 per cent equity.

However, the report published on Tuesday, Oct 27, said that the newspaper could not get any confirmation from Google India.
