Mkts end lower on sell off in IT, realty, banking
Mumbai, Oct 26: The markets shrugged off the positive global cues and ended the day lower. While Sensex saw consolidation throughout the day, Nifty was hovering around the 5k mark.
The 30-share BSE Sensex ended the day at 16,740.50, down 0.42 per cent or 70.31 points while the 50-share NSE Nifty shut shop at 4970.90, down 0.52 per cent or 26.15 points.
The broader indices underperformed the benchmark indices; the BSE Midcap Index fell 1.8 per cent and Smallcap Index dipped 1.3 per cent.
Selling pressure continued in realty, telecom, banking, private power, oil & gas and select metal companies while buying in technology, pharma, select FMCG and auto stocks capped the losses to some extent.
Realty index fell 4.6 per cent in the session to become the biggest loser in trade today.
On disappointing numbers, infrastructure company, Punj Llyod plunged 16.5 per cent.
Zee network gained throughout the session on the restructure news. While Zee News locked at 20 per cent upper circuit and its volumes increased over 450 per cent on five-day average basis, Zee Entertainment Enterprises surged 9.5 per cent with jump in volumes of nearly 600 per cent.
The new entrant Thinksoft global put up a good show closing up by 31. 44 per cent closed at 164.30 versus issue price of Rs 125 per share.

Nifty touches 5k; IT, pharma, auto, FMGC up
Even though selling continued in in consumer durables, realty, oil exploration & select banking stocks, Nifty rose above the 5k mark. Buying in pharma, technology, steel, auto, cement and FMCG stocks supported the uptrend.
At 13.31 pm, the Sensex was up 62.12 points or 0.37 per cent at 16872.93, and the Nifty up 30.15 points or 0.60 per cent at 5027.20.
While the BSE Midcap Index was marginally trading in red, BSE Smallcap Index was flat.
Among the midcaps, Kansai Nerolac was top gainer in the midcap space with double digit gain. REI Agro was up 5 per cent. Thinksoft Global was trading at day's high of Rs 161.6 as against its issue price of Rs 125 per share.
Balrampur Chini, Gammon Infra, Rei Agro, Jagran Prakashan were up 5 to 7 per cent while, Punj Lloyd down 14pc. Karnataka Bank, HCL Info, Dena Bank, KGN Industries were down 5 to 7 per cent were the losers.
In the smallcap arena, Zee News was up 19.98 per cent. Natco Pharma, Indian Glycols, Vardhman Text & Agro Tech Foods were up 7 to 13 per cent. Suraj Stainless was down 9 per cent. Shriram EPC, AurionPro Sol, Cambridge Sol, MSP Steel were down 5 to 6 per cent.

Mkts volatile; realty, banking, capital goods dip
Markets continued to see volatility and were trading marginally lower. Selling pressure was seen in oil & gas exploration, realty, banking, capital goods and select metal companies.
At 11: 14 am, Sensex lost 30 points to 16,780 and the Nifty tanked 14 points to 4,983. The broader indices were also down 0.7 to 1 per cent.
However, the losses were marginally capped by the buying in technology, pharma and select cement stocks along with ICICI Bank, ITC, Bharti, HDFC, Jaiprakash Associates and Tata Steel.
One of the biggest loser was Punj Lloyd which plunged 14 per cent on disappointing numbers, ,The company's consolidated net profit declined 63.33 per cent to Rs 52.85 crore and net sales fell 1.7 per cent to Rs 2,876.44 crore.
Thinksoft Global was trading at Rs 144.70 as against issue price of Rs 125 per share.
Among the midcaps, Balrampur Chini, Gammon Infra, Birla Corp, Kansai Nerolac and Pidilite Industries gained 3.7 to 6.7 per cent while Karnataka Bank, OnMobile Global, Titan Industries and HCL Info slipped 5.5 to 7 per cent.
In the smallcap arena, Zee News locked at 20 per cent upper circuit. Vardhman Textiles, Agro Tech Foods, AP Paper Mills and BASF gained 6.5 to 10 per cent while Ajmera Realty, JSW Holdings, aurionPro Solutions, Shriram EPC and MSP Steel slipped 5 to 6.5 per cent.

Mkts open +ve; Tata Steel, HDFC, BPCL, ITC up
The Indian markets started the week on positive noted riding on the back of positive global cues.
However, the benchmarks are trading amid volatility and dipped marginally. At 10: 20 am, BSE Sensex was at 16,810.75, down 0.06 and NSE Nifty was at 4985.20, down by 11.85 pts.
While, FMCG, select pharma and technology stocks were the early gainers, realty and banking stocks were under pressure.
Tata Steel, HUL, BPCL, ITC, Sun Phama, SBI, HDFC, Tata Motors, Ranbaxy Labs and PNB were the frontliners witnessing buying interest. And reporting a report profit jump of 99 per cent, Maruti Suzuki gained 1.5 per cent.
The losers in early trade were, JP Associates, Idea Cellular, L&T, Reliance Communication, SAIL, Hero Honda, NTPC, Cairn India and DLF. On bad numbers, Punj Lloyd dipped 12 per cent.
The new entrant, Thinksoft Global rose 5 per cent and was trading at Rs 135 versus its issue price of Rs 125 per share.
Among the Midcaps, 3i Infotech and Karnataka Bank were down by 4 and 9 per cent respectively on disappointing numbers
However, Petronet LNG and GSPL gained 1 per cent each post numbers, Balrampur Chini surged 4 per cent.
On restructuring news, Zee Entertainment gained 1.8 per while Zee News shot up 14 per cent on good numbers.
