Swap with Maoists was 'exceptional': Buddhadeb
New Delhi, Oct 24: Terming the release of women ultras to secure the release of a police officer abducted by the Maoists as an 'exceptional' case, West Bengal Chief Minister, Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee clarified that this doesn't mean that the state has surrendered to the extremists.
"This was an exceptional decision, but we have not surrendered to the Maoists," said Bhattacharjee on Saturday, Oct 24.
"We have to be careful in future in dealing with the Maoists to see that such a situation does not arise again," he added, while answering reporters' questions on the swap with Maoists to free abducted police officer Atindranath Dutta.
Asserting that the state is committed to tackling the Maoists, Buddhadeb said that the Home Minister, P Chidambaram has also promised to help the state in this campaign to wipe out the red terror.
