Rape victim sets self ablaze, succumbs to burns

Thane, Oct 21: A teenage girl who was allegedly raped and held captive for two days by a carpenter set herself on fire succumbed to her burn injuries in a civil hospital on Monday, Oct 19.

The police who revealed the details of the case on Tuesday, Oct 20 said that the rape victim set herself ablaze about a week ago. The girl who suffered from 80 per cent burns died after she was shifted here from the Sahapur hospital.

The girl from Rasgaon village was raped on Oct 11 and was kept in captivity by the man for two days. The victim who returned home after the incident decided to take the step after the culprit threatened her against telling anyone about the assault.

The police are looking for the 25-year-old carpenter.
