US embassy clears visa for BJP MP Shahnawaz

New Delhi, Oct 20: Following the controversy that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Shahnawaz Hussain may have been denied US visa due to racial profiling, the US embassy has reportedly cleared the visa.

Denying media reports that the visa was issued after the intervention of the Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh embassy sources informed that the visa was given on Tuesday, Wednesday, Oct 20 morning maintaining that the delay was due to 'procedural' issues.

Hussain who has received the visa said that he will be leaving to the United States in the night to join the five-member Parliamentary delegation in New York to attend a UN conference.

BJP's prominent Muslim face who has also been a union minister questioned why he was denied a visa while four of his colleagues were given visas. Speaking to reporters on Monday, Oct 19, Hussain wondered if he was a victim of religious profiling.
