TN: Mother, infant die as doctors celebrate Diwali

Tiruvannamalai, Oct 20: In a shocking incident, a 20-year-old woman and an infant died in a hospital after doctors and nurse failed to attend her, who gave birth to a still-born.

Kanimozhi's mother said, "As it was Diwali, the nurses wanted to go home early. At no point of time did a doctor attend to my daughter."

But the doctors denied the allegation and said Kanimonzhi case was a complicated.

A hospital doctor said, "The baby & the mother developed complications suddenly. The duty doctor was on call. By the time she rushed to the centre, both of them died."

An FIR has been filed by the family of the woman against the Tiruvannamalai hospital.

Tamil Nadu Health Secretary VK Subbaraj said prima facie it appeared to be a case of medical negligence.

"This is a serious problem. A probe has been ordered and a report will be submitted in a day or two. Action will be taken against the guilty," he said.
