Musharraf supports Waziristan offensive
New York, Oct. 20 (ANI): Former Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf has said the South Waziristan offensive was 'very much needed' in order to flush out the Taliban.
"I support what the government and the army are doing to eliminate terrorism and extremism," Musharraf said at a dinner hosted by the Pakistani-American community in New York.
The Dawn quoted Musharraf, as saying that the growing insurgency, especially the recent escalation in suicide bombings, had put Pakistan in a precarious situation.
Answering a question about his return to Pakistan, he said he would wait and see how the situation evolved in the wake of army operation.
He also said that Pakistan's economy would remain in a bad shape unless the country has a "real functional democracy, with good governance". (ANI)
