Maha: Naxalites strike Gadchiroli on polling day
Nagpur, Oct 13: Terror strikes Maharashtra just minutes before voting for the assembly polls began on Tuesday, Oct 13. Naxalites reportedly opened fire in Gadchiroli district, police said.
"At around 6.30 am, before polling started, a few rounds of gunfire were heard in Kasanpur village of Aheri assembly constituency," Gadchiroli Superintendent of Police S. Jayakumar has been quoted as saying in the reports.
Since the nacalites were not visible, the security forces did not retaliate, as part of strategy, the police informed.
However, they have assured that the situation is under control and that there was no cause for concern.
Polling started at 7 pm amidst tight security. Above one lakh security personnel have been deplayed across Maharashtra.
