6.0 magnitude earthquake hits Indian Ocean

Washington, Oct 12: A moderate earthquake measuring 6.0 magnitude hit the Indian Ocean on Monday, Oct 12, the US government reported.

According to US Geological Survey, the epicenter of the tremor was located 1,014 kilometres north east of Port Louis in Mauritius.

The reading was based on the open-ended Moment Magnitude scale, now used by US seismologists, the survey said.
