Khadakwasla (Maharashtra), Oct 11 (ANI): Forty-four-year-old Ramesh Bhau Wanjale, a candidate of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena from Khadakwasla constituency in Maharashtra, has invested his election campaign with the glitter of gold jewellery worth Rs. 3.3 million.

Wearing the gold jewellery, Wanjale seeks to shine in the muddle of the regional electoral politics. Heavy gold chains, thick quintessential bracelets and fat rings distinguish him from the rest.

He claims that he has been doing this to declare to people the amount of gold he possesses even before the election so people can't blame him for making fast bucks after elections.

"There are many people in the fray who have more gold than I have. But they have stashed it away in banks, Swiss banks and lockers and pretend to people as if they have nothing. I have voters cutting across poor, middle and rich classes. I tell them with confidence that I'm wearing gold jewellery before the election. If I wear gold jewellery after the election, people will doubt it," Wanjle said.

"It will neither increase nor decrease after the election but I will always be at your service," Wanjle added.

Wanjale is also known for reciting hymns and couplets of various saints.

Campaigning is on a high ahead of the October 13 polls in Maharashtra. By Shivaji (ANI)
