US unlikely to revise 'iron-clad conditionalities' contained in Kerry Lugar Bill

Islamabad, Oct.9 (ANI): The United States has made it clear that it would not revise conditionalities attached with the Kerry Lugar Bill, which has been receiving criticism from various quarters in Pakistan for its stern terms and conditions.

US Ambassador to Pakistan, Anne Patterson, met President Asif Ali Zardari here to discuss the current political scenario in the country.

According to sources, Zardari asked Patterson to at least revise the language of the bill in order to put an end to the growing discontent over the US assistance and appease the critics.

However, Patterson said that it was unlikely that President Obama would return the bill for revision.

"She has apprised the President of the American opposition, as well, to the bill that could exploit the situation once it was sent back by Obama for revision," The Nation quoted sources, as saying.

Meanwhile, continuing the opposition of the bill, Pakistan Muslim League-Q (PML-Q)Additional Secretary General Chaudhry Nasir Mehmood said the conditions attached with the aid are unacceptable to the Pakistani people and the whole nation has rejected the bill in its current format. (ANI)
