Editor of Tamil daily Dina Malar gets bail
Chennai, Oct 9 (ANI): The editor of the Tamil daily Dina Malar, B Lenin, who was arrested for publishing a statement issued by television actress Bhuvaneshwari in which she had made some allegations against several top Tamil film industry stars, was granted bail on Friday.
Malar had claimed that Bhuvaneshwari had been arrested recently on charges of prostitution and had named some Kollywood stars as her clients in her confession statement.
Lenin was charged under Section 4 of the Tamil Nadu Women Harassment (Prevention) Act (TNWHA) based on a complaint filed by Radha Ravi, the general secretary of the South Indian Film Artistes Association.
The Tamil Nadu film industry has shown unprecedented unity over the issue and voiced their discontent over the publication of the report.
They claimed that the publication had maligned actors and demanded action against the newspaper.
Though the newspaper also carried a regret note for its October 5 report it was published on the bases of the actress' confession, the film industry is peeved over the wild allegations. (ANI)
