Eco-friendly firecrackers hits Diwali 2009 market
Lucknow, Oct 9: Diwali 2009 would see eco-friendly crackers, an effort by the firecracker manufacturers to provide enjoyment without harming nature.
"People have become aware of environmental issues, so we have introduced a wide range of eco-friendly crackers which are safe, non-polluting and cheaper," Gulsher Azad, who runs a wholesale business.
Additional Director General of Police Shailjakant Mishra, who heading the anti-cracker campaign, said as per rough estimates, crackers worth Rs 30 crore are burnt in the state capital every year.
"Other than money, the amount of noise and air pollution, besides waste created by the firecrackers on Diwali poses serious threat to the environment and human health," he said.
