US envoy announces relief for flood victims
New Delhi, Oct.8 (ANI): U.S. Ambassador to India Timothy J. Roemer today announced that the United States will contribute 100,000 dollars as assistance to victims of the recent floods in southern and western India.
On behalf of the American people, Ambassador Roemer offered his condolences to the families of those killed and to those rendered homeless in the disaster.
"The heart-breaking personal loss, the destruction of homes and property, and the loss of cattle and crops have been devastating," the Ambassador said. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families during this time of great loss and tragedy."
Over the past seven years, the U.S. has provided over 16 million dollars for disaster management activities in India, working in partnership with Indian disaster experts to share knowledge and expertise, improve disaster preparedness, and protect India's most vulnerable citizens. (ANI)
